Founder Chairman and Managing Director of Havells India Ltd., a US$1bn company, and one of the largest & fastest growing electrical and power distribution equipment company, manufacturing products ranging from building circuit protection, Industrial & Domestic switchgear, cables & wires, energy meters, modular switches, fans, CFL lamps, Luminaires for domestic, commercial & Industrial application.

His illustrious career began as a school teacher. However his great vision and ambition for building an institution that exemplifies global excellence steered him to follow his dream.

On a sultry day in the electric wholesale market in Old Delhi in the summer of 1958, a 21-year-old school teacher traded education for entrepreneurship and never looked back. Driven more than by the economic necessity of helping his family, Qimat Rai Gupta swapped the security of a classroom in Punjab for the uncharted waters of a small trading company selling fixtures and electric cable to businesses in and around Delhi. With an investment of Rs.10000, he started Guptajee and Company and began writing one of the most compelling businesses in the history of the electrical manufacturing and supply business in India. His unmatched leadership and vision has led him to create QRG Enterprises as one of the major players in the power distribution equipment industry as well as make its mark on the global scape.

His belief in team work, perfect implementation of the decisions, communication and transparency through ethical values, business integrity and technological expertise have made the QRG group and especially Havells India Ltd the largest player low voltage power distribution equipment industry in India and a name to reckon within the the global market.

Havells recently acquired Frankfurt headquartered Sylvania for $300 million. Today the company is Havells Sylvania, a billion-dollar-plus company ranking among the top lighting and fixture companies in the world. The acquisition of this world-class global company took place in April 2007, when Havells India, which grew from a tiny garage-based manufacturing and distribution company, to a $40,00,00,000 firm with 13 plants in India, acquired Sylvania, a Frankfurt, Germany-based lighting systems and fixtures company with annual revenues in excess of $600,000,000 a year. In the process, Havells, India's leading electrical manufacturing organization, more than doubled its size and with Sylvania set a solid platform for future global expansion.

The company’s phenomenal success over the years has been due to Shri. Qimat Rai Gupta’s mantra of “growth through quality, innovation and market consolidation”. His focus on research and development has enabled Havells develop products for consumers that offer great value. His constant emphasis on promoting energy conservation and environmental preservation coupled with his philanthropic service to the economically weaker section of the society is his way of giving back in return to the society that has helped this organization realize its true potential.

Shri Gupta has held various responsible positions in Trade and Commercial associations of the Industry from time to time. He has in his past served as the President of Federation of All India Electrical and Trade association. Shri. Qimat Rai Gupta has been recognized by various sections of the industry for his pathbreaking work in this segment. Amongst the acknowledgments bestowed upon him, Shri. Gupta received the elf made Entrepreneur Award “Udyog Patra” in 1989, Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award 2004, from the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2004, Udyog Vibhushan from the Institute of Trade & Industrial Development, Delhi in 2005 and Udyog Ratna from PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry for Economic Contribution to Uttaranchal State in 2005.

He has been a major source of motivation and inspiration to all, and continues to be a mentor and source of knowledge for the daily functioning.

Mr. Anil Gupta, JMD, Havells India Ltd. graduated in Economics from Sri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University.
He did MBA (Marketing and Finance) from Wake Forest University, North California, USA.
Among the top five students in the graduating class in Wake Forest University, Mr. Gupta was also awarded the “Babcock Award” for excellence in academics, integrity and leadership. He was elected as the Vice President of the Students Government Association in his University.

He joined Havells in 1992 and started supervising the marketing and sales function. Today, he is instrumental in business development by forming new alliances and acquisitions with foreign collaborators and / or taking over other businesses within India.

With his marketing acumen, strategic planning and execution, he has helped transform the Havells brand to not only a customer focused but a customer friendly entity.

He has helped Havells maintain a leadership position in the Indian Electrical Industry by emphasizing on finding, attracting and maintaining the right customers and managing these relationships for maximum value.

Mr. Gupta’s interests include playing golf and the piano. He is extremely fond of listening to music and singing. He also has a fancy for latest electronic equipment like cameras, i-pod etc.
