Lighting is inarguably the most vital element of interior design. Even if your space is bejewelled with the finest art pieces or adorned with high end furnishings, it won’t look spectacular without suitable lighting. The selection of lights is a tricky task considering all the aspects, like room size, furniture, walls, fabric of drapes and floor, into the picture. The moment all the elements of interior design come in harmony; an immaculate interior space is created.

Ironically, lighting is the most overlooked part in interior designing all over the world. Observed by few, lighting is something which can actually cover up goof-ups done in the other departments. If done in the right manner, lighting can essentially turn a dull and boring looking room into a glossy-magazine-worthy space.

First and foremost, there is no alternate to natural light, the only problem is that you can’t control it and there some amount of heat which comes with the light. The combination of natural and artificial light works wonders in spaces. Nature inspired interior spaces get the look they are designed to get in the natural light. But other spaces like malls, offices, superstores workshops and even homes need a well curated lighting plan to attain supreme aesthetics.

Typically, there are five types of interior lights namely general, ambient, mood, task and accent. General lighting provide a uniform glow to the entire room so that every nook and corner lit up. This lighting is generally used in large spaces which are made to lit up irrespective of time during the day. Ambient lighting is used to create a dramatic effect by dimming according to the occasion. These lights are generally indirect, thus, appear softer than general lights.

Mood lighting is essential for the overall look of a room than general and ambient lighting and a space would be basic without it. Task lighting, as the name suggests, is any light source used for a particular task like reading or cooking. Similar to task lighting, accent Lighting has a specific function and is any lighting which has precisely been comprised to highpoint a certain feature in a hall.

An interior designer plays with all these lights to give a perfect look. In fact, high end luxury establishments like resorts, hotels or multiplexes get their aesthetic look just because the lighting scheme is very well thought upon. Any space where expensive elements are brought together to create an aura, can’t achieve its desired look without the use of lighting in a creative way. Modern designers blend the contemporary and traditional taste with the help of lights only.

People with minimalistic approach get the styling done as per their taste and there are plenty options available for them too.
